We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative and driven Assistant Buyer to join our Watch Buying team based in our London office
Under the guidance of the Buyer the Assistant Buyer will support the range planning process and negotiating the purchase of merchandise in order to optimise departmental sales and company profitability. The Assistant role will be responsible for delivering agreed business, revenue and margin objectives in their area of responsibility. The Assistant Buyer holds responsibility for the effective delivery of the Buying strategy and will track the relevant budgets to ensure delivery of profit margins for the Company. A creative eye and product flair is key to the role.
The Assistant Buyer must have credible knowledge of the issues facing the business on a day to day basis and in the longer term. They should be able to develop their own solutions and be entrepreneurial in their approach whilst maintaining the Company’s professional image. They need to be able to provide a clear communication link between all parts of the business and will be able to look forward in anticipating future challenges and opportunities and respond to these with effective planning.
The Assistant Buyer has responsibility under the guidance of the Buyer for ensuring that optimum price efficiencies are secured when negotiating with suppliers.
They should make productive links with suppliers to our industry and be able to relate movement or profitable efficiencies that may be made in the future. The Assistant Buyer will be responsible for looking at current and future trends.
Management planning and purchase of commodities and merchandise within their area of responsibility will ensure that they maintain a robust supply of products across the business and through engagement and negotiation with suppliers ensuring that optimum price efficiencies on merchandise is secured.
Protecting margins by ‘running a tight ship’ through stock control, correct data integrity will be at the forefront of their activities. They will strive for exceptional standards of delivery.
They will lead their team to deliver outstanding results by developing product strategies to bring out the best in each individual; coaching and developing multiple direct reports; ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to be performance managed for outstanding delivery of results in which they will perfect a range for retail.
The Assistant Buyer is required to communicate effectively across the business, keeping their line manager up to date with their team’s performance and any relevant business issues. They will embrace and drive customer-centric process throughout their area and demonstrate the ability to manage change, and facilitate positive and effective change within the team. They will consistently demonstrate a passion for the business, for the role and be an excellent representative of the Aurum Business.
Essential skills or experience:
- Experience within a retail environment at Assistant Buyer / Buying Assistant level
- A passion for product
- Ability to co-ordinate a number of competing priorities
- Ability to work within a budget whilst still being able to trade profit opportunities on a continual basis
- Ability to manage and coach to deliver outstanding results as part of a team
- Ability to shape and plan a range for retail.
- IT literate
- Ability to prepare and deliver range and product proposals
- Excellent communication at a senior level within an organisation
- Commercial awareness
- Understanding of market and competitors
Desirable skills or experience:
- Management of branded goods would be beneficial
- Some knowledge of Excel, word, Power-point and Publisher
- Strong negotiating and influencing skills
- Knowledge of Diamonds and/or Jewellery would be beneficial
- Some Team Management experience
