Our People
Lorna Burhouse – Associate Buyer, Luxury Jewellery, Aurum House
I started off as a temp in St.Andrews M&W store after studying retail at university. I was due to leave the store for a graduate training scheme with another retailer to train as a buyer but then was approached and asked to stay and become manager of the store. In my time in store I absolutely fell in love with jewellery and watches loved the idea of running my own store and developing my knowledge of jewellery. A year later I was asked if I would like to move down to Leicester to work on the buying team for gems and absolutely jumped at the idea of being involved in the buying and the buzz of being in the heart of the business. Six months later I was then promoted to Associate Buyer and moved onto Luxury Jewellery. I absolutely love my current job and we have a fantastic team who all have such a passion for jewellery and building the M&W brand.
My rewards are being in such an amazing team where we all love the job, the product and supporting the stores to sell fantastic jewellery.
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication but I never wake up and think I don't want to go to work today. I love every day because something new and different happens and I thrive on different challenges.
Ann Wilson – Deputy Manager, Goldsmiths, Meadowhall
My 29 years career with Aurum has exceeded my expectations over and over. Through excellent teamwork and commitment from Aurum, has helped me become a Senior Manager.
The unbelievable support I received during my career and family life has seen my progession from part time staff to my proudest moment being promoted to Store Manager, after my family became more self sufficient.
Aurum have a extemely professional approach to the Retail Sector, but always offer flexability to the individual person. In my opinion this makes them leading employers.
The position still excites me just as it did the very first day.
Neil Green – PC Support, Aurum House
My main responsibility is to maintain and assist with the desktop and laptops used in Aurum House and the two other sites: Millfield House and Oxford Street.
I have been with Aurum for five and a half years and during that time there have been many changes within IT and the company as a whole. Nearly every computer in use at Aurum House is built in-house and the company's equipment is in good condition making my life much easier!
I always try and get to people with problems as quickly as possible; this shows that the managers within IT have a level in trust in me which allows me to do my job without too much supervision.
The nature of IT is such that it is always changing and my role as a member of the IT Department offers "support" for all members of staff within Aurum.
The best bits of my job are that I get to meet almost everybody within head office. Some days are busier than others. Just knowing that I help people do their jobs and that I am always available to help if required makes me very proud.
